Thusday 7/17

Very light breeze. In fact, zero breeze at the start.

Defiant was RC boat. I begged them not to send us all the way out to "D", but does anyone listen to me? Noooooooooo!

Still ghosting along. At the time we were being passed by jellyfish.

Spirit shook out their spinnaker, since nobody was going very fast anyway.

You know there's no wind when people take a swim DURING the race!

Sunset came and went while we continued racing.

Literally one minute after being finished at "W", the wind came up to about 10 kts apparent. Naturally.

PJ getaway

We had a little time last weekend, so we scooted over to Port Jeff for a quick overnighter. The wind hiked up to about 20 kts on the nose, so we had a fun sail over. Sunday the wind was still strong out of the southwest, so we had a pleasant run back home. Nice trip!

The ferry waits outside the channel for a barge to clear.

The late afternoon sun silhouettes the ferry.

Sunday morning at the mooring.

Joyce sips a mimosa, because getting your Vitamin C is very important and necessary to prevent scurvy.

WAH Race II and current standings

These corrected results aren't as encouraging as the uncorrected results that I posted earlier, but they ARE more accurate. Looks like we'll be out of the prize running this year.

Vacation

We took eight days off to sail over the July 4th holiday week. Here's some photos.

Joyce steering the boat in Eaton's Neck Basin, a very isolated and perfect little anchorage, with the Coast Guard station visible on the right.

Cormorants drying their wings on the beach in this picturesque cove.

Low tide in Northport Harbor means a seven foot drop. Be sure to leave plenty of line if you tie up at high tide.

We "discovered" a small island near the head of Northport harbor. We claimed the island for us and named it "Joyce Island". We'll be putting a hotel/marina and casino on it just as soon as we establish legal ownership.

The Mary E is a classic schooner being restored at Northport. It's gonna be a beauty when they're done.

The Eaton's Neck light. We had a healthy breeze out of the south on the sail back to PJ.

The last morning of our vacation dawned in a thick fog. It burned off later and we had a nice voyage home.
