Thursday 5/29

(Kari was RC boat tonight; this photo from Sunday's Pierce Inv't)

Breezy, 12-16 out of the SW. Sunny and cool until the wind shifted out of the NW and it warmed up 10 degrees. We had a big crew tonight, Janel, Lee, Derek, Joyce, new crew Bruce, and me.

The batteries in my camera were dead, so I didn't get any photos. We had a rough start, where we got pushed up over the committee boat and needed to do a quick 360 to squeeze in behind Audacious and Schock Therapy.

We did good in the race generally, except when we approached the first mark and fell into a wind hole by E at Charles Island; we had to throw in a few quick tacks to ghost around the mark and pick up the breeze as we headed to D Bell buoy. Our course was EDWES. We finished just behind Pale Rider and about halfway up the fleet. Good time tonight!

Pierce Inv't Race today

Today was a perfect day for sailing, with a nice SW breeze maintaining about 8-12 kts, and plenty of sunshine! It was great to get back out on the water and not be freezing!

I was joined by Janel and Joyce; and while we were short-handed, we did pretty damned good! The course was 1.5 miles directly into the SW wind to a special mark and back, twice.

We took 2nd place, and enjoyed food and beer at the post-race party at Port Milford (below).

Official results posted in this thread at the Windjammer's Forum. Congrats to First Place finishers Caliente, Pale Rider, and Schock Therapy!

Windy, chilly, and rainbow-y

We had the first Windjammers race of the season tonight (last week's was canceled for lack of wind) and it was a doozy!

Sun and clouds with showers produced the phenomenal rainbows pictured below. The wind piped up from 10 to about 28-30 right before the race when a squall blew through, causing us to drop the big #1 genny and put up the more manageable #2 sail. As the rain passed over we were treated to an hour-long single and double rainbow that was the brightest I've ever seen!

About 10 or so boats competed, and we did OK for a shakedown race. Janel & Joyce (pictured) along with Lee and Paul (from Wild Eyes) were crew tonight. Great time with lots of northerly breezes and flat waters. We're looking forward to the Pierce Invitational Race on Sunday.
