Thursday 9/22
Janel was on injured reserves this week, so she took all the pictures. Great job, too!
Lee steering the boat prior to the start.
Joyce getting windblown on the bow during the pre-start sequence.
Me steering, taken from inside the cabin. We had a bit of a breeze that night, so we moved really well.
Derek successfully photographed by Janel.
A pre-sunset image.
Pale Rider glides by the sun. The camera sucks at extreme zoom, and there are dust specs on the CCD, which won't go away until I have the camera taken apart. I'm not willing to do it myself because I'm sure I'll mess it up.
After the sunset, a moonrise followed.
Lee after the race. We had a good showing tonight, with a full main and the #2 jib. Great race! Course was NW4, lots of windward/leeward. After the race, there was a Harvest Moon dock party at Port Milford.
Thursday 9/16
Ah, nope. We decided it would be wise to stay in port tonight. As I type this, I just heard several loud peals of thunder. A good night to stay dry.
Thursday 9/09
The season is winding down, but with the 6PM start time we gain a little more daylight for a while.
A breezy night, with winds approaching 20 knots out of the NW. The offshore wind kept the waves from building, making it a fast night. We used the #2 genny and full main.
"Spirit" is framed by a sunset sky.
Chad is back on the boat, helping with the genny trim. He showed up with flip-flops, but because it was so windy I insisted he wear my old sneakers. After about 10 minutes he got too grossed out to continue (they were really old sneakers) so he borrowed my water shoes, which were incrementally less grotesque.
The crew hiked out on the windward leg. We heeled more tonight than any time this season. The cabin looked like it had been hit by a tornado; everything that wasn't nailed down took flight.
Just the usual spectacular sunset. I'm gonna miss these when the season ends.
Thursday 9/02
Last 6:30 start of the season. Starting next Thursday, 6:00PM starts!
Not many photos tonight. Crew was Janel, Derek, Lee, Chad, and Joyce. Derek and Chad on the winches, Lee on mainsail trim.
Joyce as the late summer sun sets early.
A quick race around the buoys and done.
